Developmental – Behavioral Pediatrician

At first, I am not familiar with Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician because I thought the Pediatrician is enough to know the condition of my son. After, I notice the behavior of my son which is different to some children of the same age, I done research and found out that need Development Behavioral Pediatrician to check my son’s condition. I inquire at our place and the evaluation fee is a lot expensive that a regular Pediatrician. It professional fee cost Php 3,000 to Php 3,500 per evaluation. The evaluation time is 2 to 3 hours long. At first, the Developmental – behavioral pediatrician will interview parents or guardian of the child about the pregnancy issues and other medical issues of a child and then he evaluate a child behavior by observing the child while playing and give instruction to child if a child is able to follow instruction. After thorough observation, He then provides diagnosis and provides treatment to a child. This treatment may includes behavioral therapy, occupation therapy, speech therapy, etc. He also advises parents how to handle their children at home and school.

What is Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician?
The Developmental-behavioral pediatrician specialized in evaluating and treating children with learning disabilities, developmental difficulties and other related behavioral concerns. Also, the developmental behavioral pediatrician has the expertise and training to assess and advice the need of the child who has behavioral problems. In addition, they evaluate, counsel and provide treatment for children, adolescents and their families. They are medical doctors who completed 4 years of medical school, 3 years of residency training in pediatrics, board certification in pediatrics and additional special training in development-behavioral pediatrics.

The following are some of the condition that need the counsel and advice of the Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) such as Asperger’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified, childhood disintegrative disorder.
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) which include depression, anxiety disorder, conduct problems, etc.
  • Developmental Disabilities which include celebral palsy, spina bifida mental retardation, visual and hearing impairments.
  • Learning Disorder which include dyslexia, math disorder, writing difficulties, and other school related learning problems.
  • Habit Disorder includes tics and Tourette syndrome
  • Delayed Development in kids such as delayed in speech development, motor skills, and thinking ability.
  • Regulatory Disorder which include sleep disorder, feeding problems, toilet training issues, bedwetting, discipline difficulties, etc.
