Asperger‘s Syndrome and High Functioning Autism Differences

asperger or high functioningWhen I notice that my son’s behavior is different from other’s kid, I feel stress so I google information about autism and how each type of autism differs from one another. Asperger syndrome and high functioning autism are both a mild form of autism. Sometime Asperger’s syndrome (AS) and high functioning autism (HFA) often referred to as the same diagnosis but they are exist as two separate diagnosis but it can be possible that in the future they may be combined. Both individual with AS and HFA have average or above average intelligence but struggle with social interaction and communication. The primary difference is that children with HFA have delayed language but children with AS did not have delayed language development.

The most difference of high functioning autism (HFA) and Asperger’s syndrome (AS) is language development. They both share common similarities including delay in motor skills, obsession interest in specific item or information such as numbers, letter, math, etc., lack of communication and social skills, and among others characteristics.

Unlike other form of autism spectrum disorder, both high functioning autism and Asperger syndrome want to involve themselves to other but they do not know how to do about it. They do not understand other’s feelings or emotion and they may feel social outcasts which lead them to anxiety and depression.

The potential causes of high functioning autism and Asperger’s syndrome based on their investigation include inherited genetic condition, environment factor and other medical problems.
There is no cure for both AS and HFA but early intervention may reduce the signs and symptoms of autism. With the proper behavioral training and therapy, they may overcome problems with interaction.
