As parent, we always think about our child’s future. Even more if our child has an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We want all the best for our child that is why we can do everything for our children.
Aside from medical care and therapist, as parent or caretaker of our child, here are some helpful tips to raise a child with autism.
1. Positive reinforcement
Just like any other children, a child within autism often responds well to positive reinforcement. Praise your child for the positive behavior and it will make him feels good. You can find ways to reward him either with extra playtime or small prize such as sticker, or food. Make sure that he knows what you like about his behavior.
2. Make sure to put play on the schedule. Insert play in every activity so that your child opens up and connect with you.
3. Take your child along for daily activities. You may take your child to everyday activities such as take him on the market or grocery store, so that they may learn to get through with the real world and may know how to interact to different situation.
4. Give time. Try different techniques, treatment and approaches to figure out what is the best for your child. Make sure not to be discouraged if your child does not respond well to a particular treatment or strategies.
5. Be consistent on schedule. Routine is important in the people in the spectrum so as much as possible make sure to be consistent on everyday activities and talk to your child if there is a change ahead of time.
