Getting PWD ID for autism

A person with disability (PWD) has restricted or different abilities due to mental, physical, social or sensory impairment.

According to Magna Carta of Disabled Persons or Republic Act No. (RA) 7277, amended and expanded through RA9442 in 2007 and RA 10754 in 2016, PWD ID holder shall entitled benefits and privileges including at least 20% on goods and services, educational assistance to PWD, transportation discounts and many more.

The following are classified and identified on the PWD ID as:

  1. Physical/Orthopedic Disability
  2. Visual Impairment
  3. Hearing Impairment
  4. Speech Impairment
  5. Intellectual Disability
  6. Psychosocial Disability (ADHD, bipolar disorder, long-term recurring depression, nervous breakdown epilepsy, schizophrenia and other long-term recurring mental or behavioral problems)

A person or child with autism can be fall under number 4, 5 and 6 since autism is a spectrum disorder. Some kids may have intellectual disability and some do not have.

Here are the requirements in order to get a PWD ID card:

  1. Application Form. This can be accomplished from Office of the Mayor, Office of the Barangay Captain, DSWD offices, National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) or its regional counterpart and Participating organizations with memorandum of agreements with the Department of Health
  2. Two 1×1 ID pictures
  3. A duly signed clinical abstract by licensed private, government clinic or hospital based physician
