Vitamin D Deficiency can Cause Autism

Yes you heard it right, Vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy may linked to autism as publish in the journal Molecular Psychiatry. It discovered that pregnant women who had low vitamin D levels when they were 20 weeks pregnant were likely to have a child with autism.

As of now, many children have been diagnosed with autism and parents never know the real cause of autism. Autism is a brain development disorder that truly affects both social and communication skills. It is also linked to intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and behaviors, verbal difficulties, etc.

As we all know, Vitamin D is necessary for healthy bones and some people get it from being exposed to the sun. But, of course, it is also possible to get vitamin D from some foods and vitamin supplements. Foods that contains vitamin D includes eggs, salmon, and sardines. It is consumed through vitamin D-fortified food such as milk.

According to other research, vitamin D plays a role in the brain and nervous system development. Low in vitamin D may be linked with neurodevelopment disorders like autism. Previous research by John McGrath, MD, PhD found a linked between low vitamin D levels in newborns and an increased risk of schizophrenia
